Ways Christ UMC serves our community

If you have any questions regarding these ministries, contact Carol Yarian (carol@christumchurch.org)
College Care

As our high school students graduate and head off to further their education or pursue a military career, Christ UMC strives to maintain a connection with them.  Words of encouragement and a gift card are sent to students and those serving in the military from our congregation.  Knowing that they are loved, in our prayers, and still a very important part of Christ UMC helps them realize how much their church cares about them.

Edgelea Backpack Ministry

Edgelea Feed the Kids provides food for students in need each weekend during the school year by picking up and delivering tote bags with food. The staff at Edgelea Elementary recommends families for this program and we fulfill their needs. Funding for this program is provided by the generosity of our congregation and through monthly food donations. This ministry also helps to bring awareness to our congregation the needs many families in our community face. Many times it is our next door neighbor.

Feed The People

Twice a month a team of volunteers delivers food items to LTHC (Lafayette Transitional Housing) that is used for the Saturday lunches served to their guests.  We are able to provide around 150 lunches to those facing homelessness in our community each month.

Food Pantry

The Food Pantry serves clients who need a bag of groceries to help see them through the month. Volunteers are needed 5 times a year, typically serving 2-3 hours, 1 or 2 days during the months of January, March, April, June, and October.  Volunteers fill a grocery bag or bags according to the size of the family.

Jubilee Christmas

In December, Christ UMC partners with LUM (Lafayette Urban Ministry) to host Jubilee Christmas.  We host 20 families and 50-60 children each year so they can enjoy a Christmas they otherwise would not have.  The children receive clothing, toys, stocking stuffers, and a Bible.  The families also get food baskets, personal hygiene items, cookies, homemade bread, and a beautiful homemade quilt.  We need lots of volunteers each year to make this amazing event happen and we’d love to have you join us.

Kids Kloset

The Kids Kloset provides free children’s clothing to anyone in the community. Volunteers are needed to sort and hang clothing when donations are brought in. We also need volunteers to be available to assist people on Tuesdays from 12:30pm – 3:00 pm when the Kids Kloset is open. You can make a difference in a child’s life.

Senior Food Insecurity Program

Did you know there is a critical need in our community for seniors facing food insecurity?  Here’s how you can help:
Join our Senior Box Packing team that packs 500-600 boxes of food that are delivered to 5 senior centers, each center receiving 50 boxes twice a month.  We’d love to have you volunteer with us the third Thursday of each month at Food Finders Fresh Market to ensure seniors in our community don’t have to choose between purchasing food OR medications.
