Youth Ministry

Christ UMC Youth Group

Youth Group for Christ UMC is for any students in grades 6-12. We meet in a variety of ways to help meet the hectic schedules that many youth have.

  1. We meet once a month on the 4th Sunday at 4pm at Christ UMC. This is a “typical” youth group setting. Think games, faith exploration, community building, and snacks.
  2. We meet as small groups, consisting of 3-6 students per group. Each group has a focus on what they’re passionate about. Some may be technology, art, serving the community, or something else entirely. The group chooses the focus and chooses the times that work best with their schedules.
Regardless of the focus, we are always working toward making disciples and growing our faith.
  3. Once a month we meet with other United Methodist youth groups in the Lafayette area for collaborative events, service projects, and discussions. More information and dates are listed in the “Lafayette Youth Collective” section below.

We understand that the middle and high school years are amazing, but can be challenging as well. We work together as staff, volunteers, and students to ensure that we have a safe space to share our beliefs, thoughts, and questions without judgement from others. We are all striving together to make the group, and ourselves, better.

If you have any questions, please contact Youth Director, Jake Mayer (jake@christumchurch.org)

Lafayette Youth Collective

Once a month, youth from the Lafayette area Methodist churches meet up to work together and have fun.

We believe that walking with others in our faith journey is important, and “others” doesn’t just include those who we go to church with. Just because the names on our buildings are different doesn’t mean we can’t be together.

This group is led by Janee LaFuze (St. Andrews UMC), Glen Robyne (Grace UMC), and Jake Mayer (Christ UMC). The monthly events are established with the input from youth and formed in a way that everyone feels welcome and included.
